Today is the first/second etc. Sunday after the festival of the Epiphany, (January 6th). The word Epiphany means a sudden or great realization or revelation and it is celebrated as the first appearance of Christ to the Gentiles, when the Magi (Wise men) came to worship him.

In the Lutheran church, this season runs from the day of Epiphany until Ash Wednesday and includes the baptism of Jesus.

· For professionals dealing with those in need, eg medical workers, social workers

· For the Jewish people, that they may hear and obey the call to follow Christ
